Objective of the course: The objective of the course is to introduce the scope of architecture in theory and practice; to provide an overview of architecture in the contaxt of related disciplines; to introduce the student to the basic vocabulary of architecture which includes natural & manmade environment, building, architectural space, structure, construction, trends & styles, etc.; to introduce fundamentals of architectural design concerning form, shape, colour, texture, etc., and exploration of architecture as an embodiment of ideas & various design approaches. |
Course Contents:
This course develops a view on the making of architecture through the introduction of conceptual, perceptual, and technical aspects that lie behind architectural design. By using a comparative method, we will discover how architects in different epochs and diverse places struggled with similar or divergent concepts of space, form, order, geometry, etc. Although this is not a history course, linkages to historical and theoretical aspects will be established for a more complete understanding of architecture.
