Objective of the course: The objective is to introduce the student to the Turkish language and to eable the development of oral and written skills for both comprehesion and expression. Language skills the student will include: oral comprehension, reading, writing, translation, and speaking. Acquisition of fundamental knowledge of Turkish phonetics and phonological structure, morphology, etymology and syntax, orthography and aims at developing in students the skill for good speech and a sense of the beauty of the Turkish tongue.

Course Contents: Introduction to Turkish Language. Phonetic and vowel harmony. Syllable and its characters. Word. Structure of phonetic. Orthography. Root and ending. Syntax and type of syntax. Syntax analyst. |

Assessment Methods:
2-hr written midterm examination: 40%; written final examination: 50%; attendance and participation: 10%. Examinations are held during the regular midterm- and final-examination periods of the academic calendar. The final grade for the course will consist of Satisfactory (S) or Unsatisfactory (U).
