Morehead-Cain Global Fellows Program – Application Deadline Extended to October 8, 2026

The US-based Morehead-Cain Foundation is accepting applications from İzmir Institute of Technology students for the Morehead-Cain Global Fellows Program for the 2027–2028 Academic Year.

İzmir Institute of Technology is participating in the Global Fellowship Program for the third time as the Foundation’s second partner university in Türkiye.

About the Fellowship

The Morehead-Cain Global Fellowship provides selected students with the opportunity to pursue one year of undergraduate study and research at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC-Chapel Hill).

The program offers students the opportunity to:

  • Study for one year in their relevant academic field,
  • Participate in academic and research activities,
  • Take part in funded travel experiences in the United States, and
  • Become part of a lifelong, global community of Morehead-Cain alumni.

The fellowship covers tuition fees, accommodation, and return travel costs.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Be enrolled as a full-time student at İzmir Institute of Technology,
  • Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00/4.00, and
  • Successfully complete two years of university study with the required course load within a maximum of two academic years, including summer school.

Important: Selected students must have completed two years of university study before beginning their studies at UNC-Chapel Hill.

Evaluation Criteria

Applications will be evaluated based on the following criteria:

  1. Academic excellence
  2. Strong English communication skills, both oral and written
  3. Leadership skills
  4. Extracurricular experience
  5. Strong understanding of and respect for diversity

Required Documents

  1. Official transcript showing the latest cumulative GPA
  2. Student certificate
  3. Up-to-date Europass CV prepared in accordance with the guidelines provided in the announcement

Important Note

The dates and criteria above apply to the internal selection process at İYTE for nominating students to the Morehead-Cain Global Fellowship Program.

Following the nomination by İYTE, selected students must complete their application through the Morehead-Cain Global Fellowship application portal by October 30, 2026, and will then proceed through the additional selection criteria and procedures determined by Morehead-Cain.
